For general information only, based on the 5% standard rate published by the UAE Government Portal and the Federal Tax Authority. Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt - see the VAT guide. Not tax advice.

The two formulas

  • Add VAT: VAT = net × 0.05 · total = net × 1.05
  • Remove VAT: net = inclusive price ÷ 1.05 · VAT = inclusive price − net (4.7619% of the inclusive price)

Frequently asked questions

What is the VAT rate in the UAE?

5% since 1 January 2018. A limited set of goods and services is zero-rated (exports, international transport, certain education and healthcare) or exempt (bare land, local passenger transport, some financial services).

Mandatory above AED 375,000 of taxable supplies and imports per year; voluntary above AED 187,500.

Do tourists pay VAT?
