UAE gratuity calculator (end of service)

Enter your basic monthly salary and your service dates. The calculator applies Article 51 of the UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021): 21 days of basic pay for each of the first 5 years, 30 days for each year after, pro rata for part-years, capped at two years' wages.

Basic pay only - exclude housing, transport and other allowances.

Days of absence without pay do not count toward service.

Estimate only, for full-time private-sector expatriate employees under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 (Article 51) and Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022. DIFC uses the DEWS savings scheme instead, and some free zones follow their own rules. Employers may deduct amounts you owe them. This is not legal advice - check u.ae or MOHRE for your exact case.

How the maths works

Your daily basic wage is your annual basic salary divided by 365. The first five years of service earn 21 of those daily wages per year; every year after that earns 30. A part-year counts pro rata once you pass one full year. If the running total ever exceeds 24 months of basic pay, the law caps it there.

Frequently asked questions

How is gratuity calculated in the UAE?

21 days of basic salary for each of the first 5 years of continuous service, 30 days for each year after, pro rata for part-years, capped at two years' total wages. See the full guide with examples.

Is gratuity calculated on basic or gross salary?

Basic salary only. Housing, transport, utilities and other allowances are excluded.

Do I get gratuity if I resign?

Yes, as long as you completed at least one year of continuous service. The current law gives the same gratuity whether you resign or are terminated - the old unlimited-contract resignation reductions were abolished in 2022.

What about limited vs unlimited contracts?

Since February 2022 all UAE contracts are fixed-term; unlimited contracts were phased out (conversion deadline end of 2023). The same gratuity formula now applies to everyone. Read limited vs unlimited contracts.

Do unpaid leave days count?

No. Article 51 excludes days of absence without pay from the service period.
